Laser Gum Treatment
PerioLase Therapy
We are proud to announce that we now offer PerioLase therapy. This
treatment provides new hope for people with periodontal disease! In
June, Dr. Marino received her license in laser therapy at the
Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, and is one of the first
dentists in San Diego to have this incredible technology.
You may be asking...what is periodontal (gum) disease? When plaque, an
invisible, sticky bacterial film, is allowed to build up on your teeth,
usually around the gum-line, it can harden into unattractive yellowish
substance called tartar or calculus. If ignored, calculus accumulates
between the tooth and the gum creating pockets of infection, causing
swelling, tenderness, bleeding and even bad breath. Gum disease is the
leading cause of tooth loss, and research has shown a link between gum
disease and the following systemic diseases and conditions: heart
disease and stroke, pre-term births, pre-eclampsia, diabetes, kidney
disease, lung disease, and even Alzheimer's.
PerioLase®
from Millennium Dental Technologies is the only laser designed especially for
Laser Periodontal Therapy™.
Sometimes with periodontal disease, treatment involves periodontal
surgery, but because PerioLase is a non-surgical procedure, it is a
successful alternative to traditional gum surgery. The laser fiber,
which is only about as wide as a couple of human hairs, is inserted
between the gum tissue and your tooth where it almost painlessly removes
diseased tissue and stimulates. It also stimulates the body’s own
jawbone growth which will provide a more secure supporting foundation for your teeth.
Prevention, including regular visits and home oral hygiene care, is

Treatment Procedure
A: Perio probe indicates excessive pocket depth.
B: Laser light removes bacteria and diseased tissue.
C: Ultrasonic scaler and special hand instruments are used to remove root surface tarter.
D: Laser finishes cleaning pocket and aids in sealing the pocket closed so new germs cannot enter.
E: Healing of gums to clean root surface occurs.
F: Bite trauma is adjusted.
G: Healing occurs.

Headache Relief
NTI Tension Suppression System
Nothing gives us more satisfaction than to treat and relieve conditions
that cause our patients physical pain. We all know that dentists treat
toothaches quickly and efficiently. But we also treat many ailments
related to the structure of your jaw, your breathing patterns during
sleep (sleep apnea), and nighttime tooth grinding (bruxism).
We would like you to know that we often treat patients who suffer from
severe headaches and migraines. The NTI Tension Suppression System
is a device invented by an American dentist and approved by the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA). This device has proven effective in
significantly dicing headache and migraine episodes. Most migraines and
common tension headaches are classified as "primary headaches," meaning
that nothing physically wrong can be found with the sufferer. However,
both tension headache and migraine sufferers exhibit "pericranial
tenderness" or sore and tender scalp muscles caused by intense
contractions during sleep. Many times per night these muscles clench the
jaws with tremendous intensity, often without the sufferer's awareness.
The NTI device is made to fit on the patient's upper anterior teeth,
suppressing the muscle contraction intensity. The NTI is small,
comfortable, worn only when sleeping, and we custom fit them in one
visit. The NTI is also effective in treating nightly tooth grinding. If

Cosmetic Contouring
Too short...too much...TWO methods
Are you self-conscious because your teeth look too short or too long ...
because too much of your gums show ... because your teeth look different
lengths? Non-surgical, non-invasive dentistry can cosmetically contour
your smile. If your gumline is uneven or if your teeth look too small,
short, or square, we can restore symmetry and proportion by sculpting
your gumline with a gum lift or crown lengthening. Both
reveal the natural enamel hidden by excessive gum tissue. If your teeth
look too long, it could be that ageing or periodontal disease has caused
your gumline to recede. The portion of gums that appear “too short” can
be restored by applying the same porcelain veneers that we use to
hide other smile flaws.
Smile Options!
New Orthodontics
We are thrilled to offer our patients a new orthodontic option called
Red, White and Blue. This appliance is similar to high-end clear
aligners (that move teeth into optimal position) in its effectiveness
but is less expensive, therefore it offers an affordable solution to
patients who may not otherwise be able to have treatment.
The system consists of one to three invisible removable aligners, each
expressing progressive correction of anterior teeth. The appliance will
not affect speech, is flexible, and extremely durable.
